Since you'll be seeing Banks in our postings moving forward, we thought you might like to know a little bit about his creator and how he came to be.
Like everything else "Outer Banks Boil Company", Banks has his roots in family and friendship. We knew we wanted a fresh face for our brand and since shrimp is a BIG ingredient in what we do, we thought we'd try to find an artist who could create an iconic shrimp image.
Enter John Kachik from Sykesville Maryland!
Matt grew up in Sykesville and along with his brothers, Alex and Quinn, played a lot of club soccer with Sykesville's Freedom Soccer Club . John, our "Banks" creator, spent many years coaching his daughters' teams with that club.
It seemed like a natural turn-of-events to reach out to John when we were looking for someone to create our mascot. After one conversation we knew that John was incredible. We'd get a character who would set the perfect tone for Outer Banks Boil Company.
John is an Alumnus and occasional adjunct faculty of the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he studied Illustration and sculpture. He has been working as a freelance illustrator/designer and fine artist since graduating with honors in 1984. Some of his favorite jobs include collaborations with Mini Cooper, Bloomingdale's, Rolling Stone, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, and The Wall Street Journal,

I’ve been an International illustrator since 1984, and I’ve made thousands of images, however working on the OBBC T-shirt was one of the most fun projects I’ve had the pleasure to create. Really enjoyable working for a great company and good friends”.
